The most popular breed in the United States, the Quarter Horse is a strong, hardy horse suited for many activities: riding, ranching and rodeo. The physique of the Quarter Horse is perfectly suited to rodeo events, such as calf roping and barrel racing. The Quarter Horse's history is as old as the American colonies. Settlers brought the English Thoroughbred with them and it was crossed with horses bred by the Native Americans from stock brought by the Spaniards.
