Liopleurodon means "Smooth-sided Tooth". This marine reptile is known as a pliosaurs and like whales surfaces for gulps of air. They were know to be a fast swimmer and had a highly developed sense of smell based on the forward facing position of its nostrils. Liopleurodon measures 6.9" L x 1.9" H and is realistic and lifelike in every detail down to its protruding teeth and the texture of its skin.
CollectA's detailed replica of the Liopleurodon is lifelike down to its scaly skin and protruding teeth. The carnivorous reptile lived in the Middle Jurassic Period, about 160 - 155 million years ago. The first specimens were three teeth found in 1873. Fossil specimens have been found in England, France and Germany. The Liopleurodon had four paddle-like flippers, indicating it was a powerful swimmer. The largest known skull of the creature is 5.1 feet long, and some scientists believe the Liopleurodon could have been between 23 - 34 feet in length.
