Children around the world have been captivated and entertained by Breyer horse toys since 1950, when Breyer Molding Company, a Chicago-based plastic manufacturer, made the #57 Western horse, its very first model equine. Initially, the #57 Western horse was created as an adornment for a mantelpiece clock as a special order for the storied F.W. Woolworth Company. However, soon after the clock was sold at Woolworth's stores throughout the country, customers began bombarding the F.W. Woolworth Company with requests to purchase model horses like the one on the clock. It was then that the Breyer Molding Company realized that they needed to adjust the focus of their company to meet the demands for their intricate model horses and the Breyer Animal Creations brand was born.
